1918 Gibson A-2 mandolin. This mandolin is an absolute joy to play. Really loud mandolin with great action that is just begging to be played by a much more skilled player than myself. It came to me by way of the original family. Was passed down a few generations and ended up with me. The original owner was a member of the Greek-American army and I have an old picture of him included on his original military souvenir that was given to his family while he was away on duty. The lady who sold it to me told some stories of how this mandolin was used along with a few other instruments with a group of guys who worked together in the coal mines of WV. Anyway, it’s a pretty great example of an A-2 mandolin with some nice wide grain on top. Set up perfectly and ready to be played for years. Original pickguard is included but disintegrating as I type. It does have the original mounting pieces though if you wanted to have a new guard made. Ever so slight crack near the sound-hole. Doesn’t appear to go past the top layer of wood. Original case included also with no handle. Case is in excellent condition though without any funny smells. Has been stored inside a non-smoking home for all of its life I would imagine.
